Résumé
Old Mowgli tells the tale of the promise made in his youth to kill Shere Khan the tiger, who gets more dangerous by the day as he is consumed by blood lust. Every summer, the sun burns the savannah and dries up the rivers. But this year, water is especially hard to come by and the animals must endure a dreadful thirst. Thankfully, a marsh forms in the empty riverbed and Hathi the elephant decrees a water truce. With all hunting forbidden, every animal is safe to come and quench their thirst. Even Shere Khan is bound to this truce. But the bloodthirsty tiger is driven only by his vendetta against Mowgli. Not only does he wish the young man's death, but also to bring an end to his illusions...

Stephen Desberg was born in Brussels on 10 September 1954 and started writing scripts under the guidance of Maurice Tillieux. He collaborated on Tillieux's last "Tif et Tondu" stories ("Le Gouffre interdit" in 1978, then "Les Passe-montagnes") and then wrote the series on his own until the departure of Willy Maltaite (Will) in 1990. Desberg produced other stories for Will and for his son, Eric, with whom he successively developed a number of series before turning to a more adult type of humour in "Carmen Lamour" at PetT Productions in 1993. After this initial period, he worked for Spirou and devised the "Mic Mac Adam" series for Benn from 1978 onwards, a first attempt at "Billy the Cat" with Colman in 1979, the fantastic adventures of the angel "Arkel" for Marc Hardy in 1981 and the retro African atmosphere of "Jimmy Toussel" for Daniel Desorgher in 1987. At Casterman, he worked in association with Johan De Moor to devise the characters of "Gaspard de la nuit" and "La Vache." At Lombard, he wrote "Le Sang noir" for Bernard Vrancken. Dargaud published his "Étoile du désert," a saga illustrated by Enrico Marini. Amongst his more recent creations, "Le Cercle des sentinelles" with Philippe Wurm at Casterman is worth mentioning. However, it is with the kitten "Billy the Cat" that he has experienced his greatest success after deciding to revive the eight-year-old rough draft in 1987. These new adventures led to a remarkable series of albums, exactingly produced by a perfectionist cartoonist. They would also attract the attention of millions of European television viewers in a parallel series of animated cartoons.

Né au Chili, le pays de sa mère, en 1970, Henri Reculé débarque en Belgique, le pays de son père, à l'âge de 14 ans. Il y suivra les cours d'illustration de l'école Saint-Luc, à Liège, à l'issue desquels il réalise un album complet en guise de projet de fin d'études, Le Grand Veneur, en compagnie de Jean-Luc Sala (Bakemono, Crossfire). Cette collaboration remporte un concours organisé par Le Lombard, qui permet aux deux jeunes gens d'y publier La légende de Kynan, leur premier album professionnel, en 1993. C'est le début d'une belle histoire entre Reculé et l'éditeur, qui se concrétise dans les cinq tomes de Castel Armer, une geste épique dont il assure scénario et dessins. Il fait alors la connaissance de Stephen Desberg, avec qui il publie le diptyque Le Crépuscule des anges, chez Casterman, puis Les Immortels, chez Glénat. Les deux hommes continuent leur collaboration au Lombard avec Le dernier livre de la jungle (4 tomes en collection Polyptique) et aujourd'hui, Cassio. Décidément fidèle à ses proches collaborateurs, Henri Reculé assure également le design des personnages de Empire USA, de Desberg, entre deux tomes de Cassio.
