    Joann Sfar naît à Nice en 1971. Après des études de philosophie et les Beaux-Arts de Paris, il passe par l'atelier Nawak, rencontre Lewis Trondheim, Emmanuel Guibert, Christophe Blain... Il publie sa première bande dessinée en 1994 et signe par la suite plus de 130 titres, dont Petit Vampire, Pascin, Donjon, Klezmer... Histoires pour la jeunesse ou érotiques, heroic fantasy ou introspection, il visite tous les genres avec une originalité certaine et fait souffler un vent nouveau sur la bande dessinée. Son énergie créative l'emmène aussi ailleurs, en littérature, à la radio, en peinture et au cinéma avec notamment Gainsbourg (vie héroïque) et l'adaptation animée de son Chat du Rabbin ou de Petit Vampire (2020).
