"We" is a dystopian novel written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1920-1921. It depicts a totalitarian state called the One State, where citizens are closely monitored and referred to by numbers. The protagonist, D-503, is an engineer working on a spaceship called the Integral, which is being built to conquer other planets. He becomes involved with a woman named I-330, who rebels against the strict laws of the One State. As the story unfolds, the Green Wall surrounding the city is destroyed, and acts of rebellion increase. The novel explores themes of dystopian society, alluding to religious and literary references. "We" influenced other dystopian works such as Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" and George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four." The novel was first published in English in 1924 and later in the Soviet Union in 1988. It has been adapted into films, theater productions, and music.
